What are the benefits?

By controlling excessive underarm sweating you can avoid the embarrassment of needing to have multiple clothing changes each day, the need for frequent showers and not limit what you choose to wear. Treating underarm sweating may also help to reduce underarm odour.

What is excessive sweating

Excessive or uncontrollable sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, can be very distressing and embarrassing, and is quite common. Around 3 in every 100 Australians suffer from excessive or uncontrollable sweating, meaning they sweat a lot for no apparent reason, even when they are not hot or not doing physical activity.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition, it may be inherited and although it poses no serious threat to your health it can be uncomfortable, distressing, embarrassing and impact your social life and confidence. It is not usually associated with illness or disease but occasionally there is a medical reason that might cause you to sweat excessively. Current management approaches of excessive sweating include topical applications such as strong antiperspirants, nerve blocking medicines, injections, heat devices and surgery to permanently remove the sweat glands or sever the nerves.

Our solutions to excessive sweating

Here at True Edge Medical, we offer clinically proven treatments for excessive sweating. Our two solutions include the use of Morpheus8 and Botulinum toxin injections.

Morpheus8, the latest programmable fractional technology microneedling device delivering RadioFrequency energy (RF) is an effective treatment in managing hyperhidrosis long term.

The Botulinum toxin is the same product used in anti-wrinkle injections and is very effective in controlling hyperhidrosis.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Our two solutions are suitable for both men and women over the age of 18 who are suffering from excessive or uncontrollable sweating.

It is not suitable for anyone with a neuromuscular condition, chronic inflammatory conditions of the underarms, during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Eason for excessive sweating

This innovative, exciting and very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis of the underarms involves the use of fractional radiofrequency (RF) with microneedling.

The Morpheus8 device is the latest generation of RF microneedling to deliver heat through precision microneedles. The tiny needles puncture the skin at a very shallow depth and the RF energy generates heat which damages the sweat producing glands in the underarms.

Morpheus 8 stands out as a top treatment on the RF Microneedling market due to its efficacy and long lasting effects. Morpheus8 for hyperhidrosis is suitable for almost anyone with this condition. At True Edge Medical will assess your individual situation and tailor a treatment plan required for you and explain the steps in detail.

Morpheus8 Pricing

$ 800
  • Both underarms per treatment
  • Recommended 3 treatments to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • All procedures performed by experienced doctor

Morpheus8 delivers this RF energy to the skin through a series of tiny gold plated pins .The pins are designed to cause fractionated entry points to allow heat generated in precise spacing and depths in the skin. RF works by superheating the depth of skin that contains the sweat glands. Temperatures of 67 to 69 degrees are delivered over half a second. The heat non-selectively destroys the eccrine or sweat glands. When this occurs, the sweat glands may not grow back.

At True Edge Medical, we perform Morpheus8 for underarm (axillary) hyperhidrosis.
Morpheus8 is a safe treatment used globally by many medical specialists and health professionals with minimal side effects and downtime. Any risks associated with Morpheus8 treatments will be fully discussed with you at your treatment consultation.
RF Microneedling is a very well tolerated procedure. The treatment involves the use of tiny needles but to ensure your comfort our staff will apply a numbing cream to the area beforehand to minimise any discomfort during the treatment. After the treatment you may feel warmth and tightness in the skin and a sensation like a light sunburn. Mild redness is common but this usually settles in 1-2 days. A few days post treatment there may also be some light peeling and flaky skin. The downtime is minimal and you can return to work the next day, and resume regular activities after 2 days.

Allow approximately 75 minutes for your appointment.

After your consultation, once a treatment plan is prepared and you are happy to proceed with your treatment, we will apply a numbing cream to the treatment areas for 30 minutes.

Once you are comfortably lying on the treatment bed, we will clean the treatment areas. The treatment will involve a series of stamping with fine needles with a warm heat. Most people report the numbing cream is effective to dull the needle prickling. After both underarm areas are completed, the area is cleaned again and a post treatment balm is applied for your comfort. You can comfortably resume your regular routine.

Some common symptoms after the treatment may include mild skin redness, slight bruising, or mild swelling. These are common and will subside within 48 hours. The numbing cream will wear off after 2-3 hours.

If you have any concerns after your treatment, contact our practice and speak to our doctors.

We recommend a course of 2 – 3 Morpheus8 treatments to achieve your ideal results. Each treatment is conducted 3-4 weeks apart. Most patients notice a decrease in their excessive sweating in about two to three weeks. Full results occur around 3 months.

We will review your skin at each treatment and monitor your progress. The number of treatments required and outcome may vary from person to person.

Yes, there is a $70.00 consultation fee which is used as a credit if you choose to proceed with the treatment.

Whilst there is minimal down time with the Morpheus8 treatment, after any medical procedure, self-care is very important.

  • You can apply a post treatment balm to minimise redness and discomfort.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Cool packs may be applied to the areas that were treated will help reduce any minor swelling and redness faster.
  • Avoid heat inducing activities for 24-48 hours post treatment (e.g. avoid hot baths, massage, scratching the area).
  • Avoid performed creams/ moisturisers/deodorants for 24-48 hours post treatment.
  • Antihistamine can be used to aid itchy skin during the healing phase.
  • Avoid touching the underarms post Morpheus8 until micro wounds have closed and any inflammation has subsided.
  • Do not pick or pull at micro wounds, keep the skin hydrated to assist healing.

Botulinum toxin injections

These are quick and effective injections that are proven to be very effective for reducing excessive sweating in the underarms. Whilst it can also be used in other parts of the body, we focus on the underarm area only. This treatment is also used for multiple medical conditions and most commonly known for its use as an anti-wrinkle treatment.

How does it botulinum toxin work?

Botulinum toxins are a natural, purified protein that works by reducing the signal from the nerve that controls the sweat glands. By blocking the nerve, it is similar to turning off the sweat glands so your body produces less sweat. This can result in a very impressive proven reduction of up to 87% in sweat production which means a very noticeable dryness in the underarms.

Botulinum toxin or “neuromodulator” injections are regarded as being very safe. In 2020 alone, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported 4.4million patients were treated using botulinum toxin. It has also been used to treat tens of millions of patients worldwide for nearly three decades and there have been no known increases in long term side-effects .

There has been extensive research and testing on these injections to ensure it is both safe and effective for users. These treatments are also used worldwide by doctors for many medical conditions including muscle spasticity and spasms, migraines, bladder and gynaecological conditions, voice disorders, teeth grinding and temporo-mandibular disorders.

In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) registered the use of these injections for severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis in January 2002 and in the U.S.A. the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved Botulinum toxin injections for hyperhidrosis in 2004.

This is a non-surgical procedure with minimal down time whereby a small amount of the neuromodulator solution is administered by very small needles into the skin of the armpit areas.

To minimise any discomfort of the injections, a numbing cream is applied to the area for a minimum of 30 minutes before the procedure. The injections itself may only sting for a few seconds.

The side effects of the injections are usually temporary and localised to the area of injection. Sometimes there may be very minor bruising and tenderness, an ice pack can be applied to the treated area to provide some relief, if needed.

We will discuss with you the option of using a post procedure balm for the next few days following the treatment.

This option is considered a “lunchtime procedure” and most people can resume normal activities immediately after a treatment.
